In the implementation of the economic and technical cooperation agreement between the government of Iran and the former Soviet Union, which was signed in 1966, it was stipulated that 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be supplied annually for 15 years (from 1970 to 1985) for the implementation of iron smelting and machine building projects. Iran's nationwide gas pipelines should be exported to the Soviet Union. Therefore, the cities of Rasht and Astara benefited from the blessing of natural gas in the implementation of the aforementioned agreement. In the early years, gas supply operations were led and managed by Gas Supply and Sales of Region 3 (Tehran Gas Supply and Sales) until with the development of gas supply to the cities, gas supply and the sale of Deh Guilan region was formed on August 1990 and was separated from Tehran's 3rd region and actually started to operate in such a way that its personnel organization was approved on same month in order to attract and supplement human resources. Then, on December 1998, Guilan Province Gas Company (private shares) was registered under number 146419 and replaced Deh Gas of Guilan as a subsidiary of Iran National Gas Company. The subject of the company's activity is receiving, distributing, buying and selling, working rights of natural gas, studying, preparing and regulating, implementing, protecting and managing the operations related to the construction plans of subsidiary lines and natural gas distribution networks and related facilities in Guilan province.
